The Department of History is one of the constituent departments of Calcutta Girls College. Ever since the inception of the college in the year 1963, the Department of History is working hard to impart productive knowledge in this discipline. The Major Course was started in the year 1998.
It is one of the largest departments of the college with five faculty members at present specializing in different fields of History. Students from different schools and independent Higher Secondary units are admitted every year and the strength of the student in this department is quite considerable–ranging from more than eighty students in different semesters in the Major stream to more than two hundred students in the Multidisciplinary stream.
Successful alumni of this Department are serving in various educational institutes and cooperative sectors as well as media around the state.
The Department organizes regular co-curricular activities for the academic upliftment and proper exposure of the students. The faculties have substantive participation in seminars and conferences and publication in books and journals at national and international levels.
During the pandemic, online classes were held regularly over Google Meet and Google Classroom. Also, at regular intervals, webinars and other conferences are organised successfully. Eight international and National Webinars were conducted in the last one year. Currently, the faculty members are engaged in publishing a text book for the new curriculum.
